Comprehensive Care Q & A

What is comprehensive care?

Comprehensive dental care is care that aims for long-term, sustainable results. Whether you need immediate repairs for your smile, treatments for disease or decay, or preventive care to avoid oral health issues in the future, Dr. Noonan and his team can provide you with the treatments and services that you need to meet your goals.

Dr. Noonan’s comprehensive dental care addresses the health of your gums, teeth, jaw, and all other structures in your mouth. He encourages you to speak freely about your oral health concerns and ask as many questions as possible during your visits.

During your consultation, Dr. Noonan also asks about your lifestyle to find out more about certain factors that might lead to higher chances of oral health complications. Dr. Noonan then designs your personalized treatment plan according to your unique needs and predispositions.

What does comprehensive care involve?

Comprehensive care involves both as-needed and preventive care. Dr. Noonan and his team are proud to provide these and other services as part of your comprehensive care:

Periodontal cleanings

Periodontal cleanings are more intense than your standard dental cleanings that you get once or twice yearly. During a periodontal cleaning, Dr. Noonan helps treat or prevent gum disease by scaling the plaque and tartar from the surfaces of your teeth. If you have pockets between your gums tissue and your tooth roots, he also performs root planing to help them reattach.

Examinations

You should plan to get regular dental examinations every six months. However, Dr. Noonan encourages patients to come in between visits if they are experiencing any irregular symptoms. During your examination, Dr. Noonan will look at your teeth and the soft tissues in your mouth to search for signs of decay, disease, and damage.

Oral cancer screenings

An oral cancer screening is a specific type of examination for signs of cancer in your mouth. If Dr. Noonan sees signs of abnormal cellular changes or activity, he may use additional tests to determine if the tissue is cancerous.

Which conditions can comprehensive care treat?

Comprehensive care encompasses all conditions that can affect the health of your teeth or gum tissue. Dr. Noonan looks for signs of these conditions and provides treatment if you have them:

  • Gingivitis
  • Periodontal disease (gum disease)
  • Cavities
  • Oral cancer
  • Tooth erosion
  • Tooth abscess

You are encouraged to bring up cosmetic concerns at your comprehensive dental visits. If your teeth are crooked, cracked, or yellow, Dr. Noonan can add cosmetic treatments to your care plan.
